Sustainable Packaging at Earthly: Conscious Choices for People and Planet
We attach great importance to the impact we have on our environment and the planet. Packaging naturally plays a big role in this. We therefore spend a lot of time looking for the ideal packaging for our products, customers, and our planet. Discover below why we choose specific packaging materials and how they contribute to a more sustainable future.
Why do we choose plastic bags for coffee?
For our coffee, we deliberately choose plastic bags made from sugarcane. This choice is not random but based on what is best for the quality of our coffee and the environment.
Our coffee bags offer optimal protection against moisture and oxygen, which is essential for preserving aroma and taste. After glass, these bags have the smallest ecological footprint for packaging coffee. They can also be easily recycled via the PMD waste stream.
Sugarcane packaging: CO2-negative and sustainable
Our coffee bags are made from sugarcane, a renewable and biodegradable raw material. This is a conscious choice that goes beyond just practical advantages such as:
- A flat bottom for stability
- A valve that guarantees freshness
- A convenient zipper for easy use
A crucial advantage of these sugarcane packages is their CO2-negative impact. This means that more carbon dioxide is removed than emitted during production. For every kilogram of sugarcane plastic produced, approximately 3.09 kg of CO2 is removed from the air.
Sugarcane captures CO2 from the environment as it grows. When this sugarcane is processed into packaging material, this carbon remains stored. And because our bags are fully recyclable via PMD, the captured carbon is not released back into the atmosphere.
In addition, sugarcane is a rapidly renewable raw material. The crop can be harvested up to three times a year without damaging the roots, allowing the plant to continue growing for years. This makes our packaging choice not only practical for storing coffee but also a conscious choice for a better environment.
Sustainable tea packaging: paper and reusable tins
Environmentally friendly paper packaging
Our tea is packaged in kraft paper with a layer of greaseproof paper on the inside. This combination:
- Optimally protects the tea against moisture
- Is fully recyclable with paper and cardboard waste
- Has a minimal impact on the environment
Unfortunately, not all paper packaging for food is equally environmentally friendly. Many paper bags require a coating that makes them no longer recyclable. Our choice for greaseproof paper as a protective layer is therefore a conscious step towards sustainability.
Reusable tea tins: the most sustainable option
The most sustainable option in our range are our reusable tea tins. These tins:
- Protect against moisture, odors, oxygen, and light
- Preserve unique flavors and aromas much longer (up to 24 months)
- Can be recycled via PMD after use
- Are perfectly reusable for other purposes
Our refill system: less waste, more sustainability
We always advise our customers to start with a tea tin and then refill it with tea in paper packaging. This approach offers several advantages:
- You reduce your packaging waste by up to 90%
- Your tea remains optimally fresh in the airtight tin
- You save money by purchasing larger quantities in paper refill packages
- You make a positive impact on the environment
Of course, you can perfectly use your existing tea tin to store the contents of the paper refill package. This system not only offers benefits for the environment but is also practical and cost-effective for you as a customer.
More than just packaging
Our commitment to sustainability does not stop at the packaging of our products. Our shipping materials are also fully recyclable or biodegradable. We use cardboard boxes and avoid plastic filling materials.
By choosing Earthly, you choose products that are not only good for you but also for our planet. From the collections to the careful selection of our packaging – we consider sustainability at every step.
